From the moment the community arrived, the energy was contagious. Complimentary refreshments and snacks, provided by Double O, set the tone for a relaxed and engaging afternoon, where creatives from different backgrounds came together with one common goal—to build a brand that truly reflects who they are (and maybe get a few Insta-worthy pics while they’re at it).
A Deep Dive into Brand Identity
The workshop kicked off with an inspiring and candid conversation between Melissa, founder and creative director of Pedestrian Clothing, and Fikile, founder of Yanda Clothing. The two creative powerhouses shared their unfiltered journeys—everything from the excitement of launching their brands to the mistakes, flopped drops, and unexpected wins along the way. The community was hooked, laughing at relatable struggles (like praying your new launch doesn’t flop harder than hearing loadshedding is back) and soaking up valuable lessons on resilience, creativity, and staying true to your vision.
After the talk, it was time for hands-on activities! The community got to work, guided through a step-by-step process to bring their brand visions to life. From generating mood boards to brainstorming brand names and defining a target audience, each participant engaged in meaningful exercises that helped shape the foundation of their future brands. Some people had lightbulb moments so bright, even Eskom couldn’t dim them.
Interactive, Fun, and Impactful
One of the highlights of the event was the interactive nature of the workshop. Instead of just listening, everyone actively built and refined their brand concepts in real time. Laughter and deep discussions filled the room as participants exchanged ideas, collaborated, and provided feedback on each other’s work—because what’s a creative event without some back-and-forth about fonts and colour palettes?
The mood board session was especially exciting, as creatives used a mix of magazines, digital tools, and personal inspirations to visually capture their brand essence. Some discovered new directions for their creative journeys, while others gained clarity on how to position their brands in the market. It was like Pinterest in real life—except with more snacks and less doom-scrolling.
The final activity involved coming up with a brand name and defining a target audience. This exercise sparked thought-provoking discussions on the emotional connection between a brand and its audience, with many participants realizing how crucial storytelling is in brand building.
A Community of Creatives
Beyond the branding activities, the workshop fostered a sense of community and collaboration. The community left not only with a clearer brand identity but also with new connections, fresh ideas, and a renewed sense of purpose in their creative endeavors.
As the event wrapped up, the excitement was palpable. Many participants shared how the workshop gave them the confidence and practical steps to turn their passion into a brand with meaning and impact—because, at the end of the day, we all just want to create something dope and make our mark in the world (or at least on the algorithm).
looking Ahead
If you missed this session, don’t worry—this is just the beginning! Due to the overwhelming positive feedback, we’re planning to host more creative workshops aimed at equipping young entrepreneurs and creatives with the tools they need to build thriving brands.
Stay tuned for future events, and in the meantime, keep creating, keep branding, and keep bringing your vision to life! And remember—your brand should be as unique as your auntie’s secret chakalaka recipe. 😉
